AN UNEXPECTED BREAK IN THE ITALIAN JOURNALIST SHOOTING CASE

The European press have been portraying American troops in Iraq as trigger-happy and reckless in the wake of the checkpoint shooting of an Italian jornalist from Il Manifesto and an Italian intelligence officer, who died as a result.

Austin Bay has an extended commentary on a leaked internal military report involving satellite monitoring of the shooting that indicates the car with the Italians were actually approaching the checkpoint at a dangerously high rate of speed. Colonel Bay has thirty years experience in the military including with the conduct of military police investigations and tours of duty in Iraq, as well as having the perspective of a journalist.
