Having invested massively in foreclosed properties ( foreclosed in a large part because of prior Bankster scamming) in the past two years, Wall Street hedge fundies are piloting a future “nation of renters” – basically America as one large and miserable “Pottersville“ with absentee landlords for the formerly middle-class. Expect a massive lobbying effort by the finance industry against the home mortgage deduction in 2014 right after the election to get a lame duck Congress to attack private home ownership.

What is the informed over/under re: ONA being canned? I would kinda hope that’s not a serious option.

It is being driven by OSD apparatchiks who want to preserve their own jobs by killing ONA ( 20 % personnel cut to OSD has been ordered by Hagel) and appropriating their responsibilities – which they are not qualified to do. JCS staff officers are another backer of killing ONA because it offers independent, high quality, rigorous advice to the SECDEF and POTUS the chiefs cannot “massage” or censor.

Congress is not in favor of this at all, a rare point of agreement between Democrats and Republicans. It will be hard to kill until Andrew marshall dies or has to step down but at that point i think ONA will get amalgamated into something else and the net assessment function will die a slow, lingering death barring Marshall getting a high-power successor in place with real pull on the hill and the WH
