Polarized light — pls review before final exam, Thurs
Sometimes an attack is unequivocally clear for what it is. When somebody shouts ALlahu Akbar as they’re stabbing a police officer, it’s pretty clear it’s not a case of the mafia robbing a bank, wouldn’t you say so?
Eh?
White House Official Gorka Claims Right Wing Attacks Are ‘Fake,’ but Data Show Something Different https://t.co/2rCas2fOKf

Vox is oppositely polarized to Gorka et alii:
Trump is quick to blame Muslims for terror attacks. He's slow when Muslims are the victims. https://t.co/gFH8Hv4srE

Incientally, all you special ops types with cool shades:
For lightweight, functional shades that protect your eyes in any lighting situation, Oakley has designed the SI Flak Jacket. Featuring an innovative 8.75 base lens curvature for optimal peripheral vision, these sunglasses provide side eye protection as well as a maximal field of view. The stress-resistant O-Matter frame found in many Oakley tactical models is lightweight, ergonomic and will not succumb to the pressures of constant wear and travel. The Plutonite polycarbonate lenses fully filter out harmful UVA, UVB, UVC and blue light up to 400 nm for maximum sun protection. Oakley also has included an Iridium coating on the lenses which reduces glare in extremely bright light. For adaptability in any environment, the lenses are easily interchangeable. « less
Take heed:
Polarization has a wealth of other applications besides their use in glare-reducing sunglasses.

Okay, time for the test. Sample question:
Answer:
A. Referring to the above question, the glare is the result of a large concentration of light aligned parallel to the water surface. To block such plane-polarized light, a filter with a vertically aligned polarization axis must be used.

Has it been conclusively proven that it was an attack? So far, I’ve heard:
1.) Terror attack.
2.) Alt-right driver panicked and accelerated by accident
3.) Antifa driver
Which is the truth?

Gorka might be referring to the phone threats to synagogues earlier this year. The press condemned Trump for not denouncing them, but the reason he didn’t was because the FBI was about to arrest the real perpretator, an Israeli teenaged hacker.
.
That data in the Newsweek link has some categorization errors. Racists committing crimes with premeditation is considered terror. Honor killings by Muslims, of which there are an estimated 20 – 30 per year, aren’t counted. Also, I noticed the 2014 Las Vegas spree killings on the ADL list, but they could be considered Leftists not Right Wing. That brings up the issue of what Left or Right really means in the first place. Is it a spectrum, a horse shoe, a circle?
Are there then Left and Right Islamists? At least by how they’re defined by who they oppose, which seems to be what these lists are doing.

HI Grurray:
Are there any Hindu, Christian or SIkh honor killings in the US? I know in the UK there are, according to police reports, and vast swathes of the Muslim world from which these never arise..

Without getting into moral relativism, there are topics upon topics where almost any generalization is liable to run into exceptions — as Hopkins said, the world is dappled..

Sorry, when I first typed the above comment, my “memory” dropped an earlier an totally unrelated quote into the italicised space than I’d intended — I’ve corrected it now.

Charles, it was Jewish community centers

I’m not aware of honor killings by other ethnic groups in America. It does seem like feminist rights and women safety issues are focused on white Christians. Is that because that group is more likely to have those problems or just that it’s easier to target that group?
.
This is an important issue, and we definitely need to recognize and interdict threats to innocent and vulnerable citizens as well as to government institutions. Maybe for anti-terrorism we need a better understanding of what may be systemic threats, therefore potentially conflagratory, and those that are less likely to spread through a critical threshold. I understand the concerns reflected in the ADL Right Wing list, but the FBI most wanted terrorist list shows other concerns that back up Trump and Gorka.
.
I don’t have much experience with White Supremacists, so I would presume we should err on the side of caution. I have met some anti-government/militia types and would tend to think they aren’t at the same risk level. If we were getting into moral relativism the analogy might be between the Black Panthers and Rev Wright’s church. Or possibly between al Qaeda and the Muslim Botherhood.
