But the problem isn&#8217;t necessarily so much the splitting of the atom, a technical feat which can be accomplished safely in, say, the heart of the sun &#8212; it&#8217;s the splitting of life from body, the work of a split second.<\/p>\n<p>Which can also be accomplished by IED.<\/p>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/zenpundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/SPEC-split-second.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/zenpundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/SPEC-split-second.png\" alt=\"\" title=\"SPEC split second\" width=\"584\" height=\"612\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11067\" srcset=\"https:\/\/zenpundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/SPEC-split-second.png 584w, https:\/\/zenpundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/SPEC-split-second-286x300.png 286w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve split these two images, both drawn from the same video one second apart, to give myself the fraying edges of a visceral sense of what that separation of life from body might be about.<\/p>\n<p>See how little the car, bottom left, has advanced between the first image and the second.<\/p>\n<p>The video the two images come from is embedded in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.michaelyon-online.com\/carl-prine-bombs-brain-damage-and-our-responsibility.htm\"><strong>Michael Yon<\/strong>&#8216;s tribute to <strong>Carl Prine<\/strong><\/a>.  I&#8217;d have embedded the video here myself if I could, but it&#8217;s in Vimeo rather than YouTube, and either because I&#8217;m incompetent or because Vimeo isn&#8217;t set up that way, I couldn&#8217;t figure out how to do the embed.  <\/p>\n<p>The Marine who sent Yon the video wrote:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This is the type of explosion that our troops are dealing with, not the puny kind we see on television or in the movies.
