{"id":1337,"date":"2005-07-28T03:43:00","date_gmt":"2005-07-28T03:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/zenpundit.com\/?p=1337"},"modified":"2005-07-28T03:43:00","modified_gmt":"2005-07-28T03:43:00","slug":"1337","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zenpundit.com\/?p=1337","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>THE COGNITION OF &#8221; FINGERSPITZENGEFUHL&#8221;<\/b><\/p>\n<p>In the extensive and interesting <a href=\"http:\/\/zenpundit.blogspot.com\/2005\/07\/5gw-reloaded-reflecting-on-5th.html\">5GW <\/a>dialogue <a href=\"http:\/\/tdaxp.blogspirit.com\/\"><strong>Dan<\/strong> <\/a>raised the perceptive quality called <a href=\"http:\/\/tdaxp.blogspirit.com\/archive\/2005\/07\/20\/index.html\">&#8220;fingerspitzengefuhl&#8221; or &#8221; fingertip feeling&#8221;<\/a> for the detection of patterns that strike us as undefinably not quite right.  Essentially this would be an intuitive form of cognition and (IMHO) an evolutionary legacy that allowed our distant ancestors to avoid being eaten by large mammals with sharp teeth long enough at least to get about the business of procreation.<\/p>\n<p>As it stands there is evidence for a physiological basis for &#8221; fingerspitzengefuhl&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Drs. Fernette<\/strong> and <strong>Brock Eide<\/strong> of the always supremely informative <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/eideneurolearningblog.blogspot.com\/\">Neurolearning Blog<\/a><\/strong><br \/>very conveniently posted this week on what sounds to be related or identical  brain activity to &#8221; fingertip feeling&#8221; in the parietal lobe region:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/eideneurolearningblog.blogspot.com\/2005\/07\/decision-making-under-uncertainty.html\">Decision Making Under Uncertainty<\/a>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/eideneurolearningblog.blogspot.com\/2005\/07\/understanding-thinking-feeling-of.html\">Understanding thinking: The Feeling of Knowing<\/a>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p>Intuitive thinking may be a form of very fast processing triggered by, at least in some instances, anamolies that while subtle, provoke heightened brain activity because there is a sudden discrepancy in the &#8220;flow&#8221; or pattern that your brain had been expecting. <\/p>\n<p>Tentatively, it would appear that this phenomena may not be just a fixed, finite, neurological reflex but also a cognitive skill-set that can be honed to a higher level of efficiency.
