{"id":1588,"date":"2005-12-31T03:52:00","date_gmt":"2005-12-31T03:52:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/zenpundit.com\/?p=1588"},"modified":"2005-12-31T03:52:00","modified_gmt":"2005-12-31T03:52:00","slug":"1588","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zenpundit.com\/?p=1588","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>4GW RECOMMENDED READING<\/b><\/p>\n<p>For those of a pessimistic bent &#8211; I don&#8217;t agree with everything these authors have to say in their respective critiques of U.S. military and foreign policies &#8211; the Germanomania that sometimes prevails at DNI is most odd considering that the Germans lost both world wars through strategic and tactical  blundering &#8211; but they raise points that are worth careful consideration:<\/p>\n<p>&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.d-n-i.net\/fcs\/fabius_forecasts_dec_2005.htm\">Lessons Learned from the American Expedition to Iraq<\/a>&#8221; by &#8221; <strong>Fabius Maximus<\/strong> &#8221; at <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.d-n-i.net\/\">DNI<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not privy to the identity of the writer who posts under this nom de guerre but he has an excellent command of history. I tend to agree with his assessment that our grasp of the Salafi-Jihadi -Qutbist-Takfiri network is remarkably poor considering that we are four years into a global unconventional war. That however, comes from having a drastic shortage of military and intelligence personnel with the requisite language skills and deep in-country experience and not moving heaven and earth to train more. Fundamentals should be our first priorities.<\/p>\n<p>From &#8220;<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/armsandinfluence.typepad.com\/about.html\">Kingdaddy<\/a><\/strong>&#8221; at <a href=\"http:\/\/armsandinfluence.typepad.com\/\"><strong>Arms and Influence<\/strong>  <\/a>&#8211; The Counterinsurgency Series:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/armsandinfluence.typepad.com\/armsandinfluence\/2005\/12\/counterinsurgen_3.html\">Counterinsurgency is Hard, Part IV<\/a>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/armsandinfluence.typepad.com\/armsandinfluence\/2005\/12\/counterinsurgen_2.html\">Counterinsurgeny is Hard, Part III<\/a>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/armsandinfluence.typepad.com\/armsandinfluence\/2005\/12\/counterinsurgen_1.html\">Counterinsurgency is Hard, Part II<\/a>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/armsandinfluence.typepad.com\/armsandinfluence\/2005\/12\/counterinsurgen.html\">Counterinsurgency is Hard, Part I<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Whether I agree or disagree with their conclusions, it is always a pleasure for me to see a person with some expertise take pains to share their knowledge at this level of depth.
