{"id":2051,"date":"2006-12-20T05:43:00","date_gmt":"2006-12-20T05:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/zenpundit.com\/?p=2051"},"modified":"2006-12-20T05:43:00","modified_gmt":"2006-12-20T05:43:00","slug":"2051","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zenpundit.com\/?p=2051","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>IC ACCOUNTABILITY: FOLLOW THE MONEY<\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong>Michael Tanji<\/strong> of<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/haftofthespear.typepad.com\/\">Haft of the Spear<\/a><\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/haftofthespear.typepad.com\/\"> <\/a>has a tough op-ed in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.weeklystandard.com\/default.asp\"><strong><em>The Weekly Standard<\/em><\/strong> <\/a>entitled &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.weeklystandard.com\/Content\/Public\/Articles\/000\/000\/013\/097lrzry.asp\">Intellipork<\/a>&#8221; calling for financial accountability in the Intelligence Community:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<strong><span style=\"color:#336666;\">IF THERE IS AN AREA OF GOVERNMENT we should expect to get more than our moneys worth it&#8217;s national security. As the recently declassified<\/span><\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dni.gov\/press_releases\/Declassified_NIE_Key_Judgments.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Key Judgments of the National Intelligence Estimate on Global Trends in Terrorism&#8221;<\/a> <strong><span style=\"color:#336666;\">has revealed, for all the money we spend on secret intelligence, the end-result is not very impressive. If there is one criticism of intelligence products held by both ends of the political spectrum, it&#8217;s how pedestrian they are: few keen insights, no groundbreaking assessments, and obvious, wishy-washy conclusions. You would think that for a few billion dollars the cumulative effort of 15 agencies would be much, much more impressive. &#8220;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tanji is no Otis Pike or Frank Church looking to slash and burn the CIA for poltical jollies.
