{"id":2372,"date":"2007-09-13T02:58:00","date_gmt":"2007-09-13T02:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/zenpundit.com\/?p=2372"},"modified":"2007-09-13T02:58:00","modified_gmt":"2007-09-13T02:58:00","slug":"2372","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zenpundit.com\/?p=2372","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>A READING UPDATE<\/b><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.howardgardner.com\/books\/covers\/5-Minds_72dpi.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Despite some reservations about <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Howard_Gardner\"><strong>Howard Gardner&#8217;s<\/strong> <\/a>normative weighing of various &#8220;multiple intelligences&#8221; and uneven conceptual development in his earlier works, I&#8217;ll give <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Five-Minds-Future-Howard-Gardner\/dp\/1591399122\">Five Minds For The Future<\/a><\/em><\/strong> a preliminary endorsement. The chapters on the disciplinary, synthesizing and creative minds are worth the purchase price alone.<\/p>\n<p>There are some very sound observations on these cognitive outlooks on Gardner&#8217;s part &#8211; readers here will see vertical and horizontal thinking well represented, though Gardner eschews the use of those terms ( he does cite <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Edward_de_Bono\">De Bono&#8217;s<\/a><\/strong>  <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lateral_thinking\">lateral thinking <\/a>exercises). <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mihaly_Csikszentmihalyi\">Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi<\/a><\/strong> is a strong influence on the creativity chapter though, as an aside, I do not always buy into Cs\u00edkszentmih\u00e1lyi&#8217;s social\/collective\/domain\/peer ratification of creativity as a standard as Gardner does.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A READING UPDATE Despite some reservations about Howard Gardner&#8217;s normative weighing of various &#8220;multiple intelligences&#8221; and uneven conceptual development in his earlier works, I&#8217;ll give Five Minds For The Future a preliminary endorsement.
