{"id":2802,"date":"2008-07-24T03:41:44","date_gmt":"2008-07-24T03:41:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/zenpundit.com\/?p=2802"},"modified":"2008-07-24T03:41:44","modified_gmt":"2008-07-24T03:41:44","slug":"who-is-the-great-dictator-of-the-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zenpundit.com\/?p=2802","title":{"rendered":"Who is the Great Dictator of the Day?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s a popular intellectual game among historians to debate who was\u00a0the &#8220;worst&#8221; dictator of all time, with most of the disputants arguing the relative merits of<strong> Stalin<\/strong> or <strong>Hitler<\/strong> with a noisy minority piping up for Mao, Pol Pot and other notorious figures [ sidebar: on the Nazism <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" align=\"right\" width=\"450\" src=\"http:\/\/www.humobisten.nl\/weblog\/archives\/dictator.jpg\" height=\"388\" \/>vs. Stalinism issue, my favorite response is from the great man of letters and author of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0195317009?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=zenpundit-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=0195317009\"><strong><em>The Great Terror: A Reassessment<\/em><\/strong><\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" width=\"1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=zenpundit-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0195317009\" height=\"1\" style=\"margin: 0px; border: medium none\" \/>,\u00a0<strong>Robert Conquest<\/strong>, who was asked why he thought Hitler&#8217;s National Socialist tyranny outclassed Stalin&#8217;s in terms of Evil and he replied simply &#8221; I feel it to be so.&#8221;].
