Instead they <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/nm\/20090506\/media_nm\/us_media_newspapers_congress\">are looking for government protection, subsidies or both<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rupert Murdoch<\/strong> envisions <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/news\/story\/murdoch-reiterates-newspapers-must-charge\/story.aspx?guid=%7B08617DFF%2D7991%2D445E%2D8DD3%2DF9D2C5B1C0D8%7D&amp;dist=msr_7\">a walled garden strategy <\/a>but news has a brief\u00a0shelf life.\u00a0A high price on all content\u00a0is a barrier to entry for older news items that just interest a few people.\u00a0A flat rate\u00a0drives down their market share for attention, their\u00a0traffic\u00a0and in turn, the market\u00a0value of all the content they own.
