Well, it goes back to the competency approach &#8211; Leave No Child Behind.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p sizcache=\"0\" sizset=\"28\"><strong>It&#8217;s like training for the test or rote memorization. And that&#8217;s what PowerPoint is. It&#8217;s a tool of the <\/strong><a modo=\"false\" href=\"http:\/\/www.eric.ed.gov\/ERICWebPortal\/search\/detailmini.jsp?_nfpb=true&amp;_&amp;ERICExtSearch_SearchValue_0=ED149413&amp;ERICExtSearch_SearchType_0=no&amp;accno=ED149413\"><strong>competency theory <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wnet\/expose\/expose_2007\/episode202\/images\/Carl_Press_Badge_sm.jpg\" style=\"width: 106px; height: 135px\" align=\"right\" height=\"237\" width=\"180\" \/>of education<\/strong><\/a><strong>, if you think about it.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>There&#8217;s no thought being put into it. It follows a format. People find out what the boss likes to see and they put it into that format. They depend on that. Because &#8211; as you and I know- if you really know what you&#8217;re talking about, they get up there and just tell it.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p sizcache=\"0\" sizset=\"29\"><strong>PRINE OF DEPARTURE: You and I have known each other for years. And we&#8217;ve been talking about <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.airpower.au.af.mil\/airchronicles\/apj\/apj88\/sum88\/mosier.html\"><strong>&#8220;Careerists&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><strong> and what they do to a military culture.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>And the reason why I ask this is because there&#8217;s this young captain who I really respect. He&#8217;s one of the best young <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/donvandergriff.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/03\/don700.jpg?w=173&amp;h=232\" style=\"width: 123px; height: 144px\" align=\"right\" height=\"222\" width=\"173\" \/>captains I&#8217;ve ever met. And he asked me, &#8220;Carl, how do you define a \u2018careerist?&#8217; What is a \u2018careerist?'&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p sizcache=\"0\" sizset=\"30\"><strong>DON VANDERGRIFF: A &#8220;Careerist&#8221; is a <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.merriam-webster.com\/dictionary\/courtier\"><strong>courtier<\/strong><\/a><strong>. All he&#8217;s interested in doing is flattering the King. Courtiers form together and you get &#8220;<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.psysr.org\/about\/pubs_resources\/groupthink%20overview.htm\"><strong>groupthink<\/strong><\/a><strong>.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>There are a lot of problems that come from Careerists. A Careerist is someone who puts self before service.
