{"id":46704,"date":"2015-09-24T04:45:24","date_gmt":"2015-09-24T04:45:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/zenpundit.com\/?p=46704"},"modified":"2015-09-24T04:45:24","modified_gmt":"2015-09-24T04:45:24","slug":"new-book-relentless-strike-by-sean-naylor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zenpundit.com\/?p=46704","title":{"rendered":"New Book: Relentless Strike by Sean Naylor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[by <strong>Mark Safranski<\/strong>, a.k.a. &#8220;<strong>zen<\/strong>&#8220;]<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ecx.images-amazon.com\/images\/I\/51lBi6kOu9L._SX329_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/1gPIZ7G\">Relentless Strike: The Secret History of Joint Special Operations Command<\/a><\/strong> by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sean_Naylor\"><strong>Sean Naylor<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I just received a courtesy review copy of <strong>Relentless Strike<\/strong> from <strong>John<\/strong> at <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/us.macmillan.com\/smp\">St. Martin&#8217;s Press<\/a>.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Increasingly viewed as a &#8220;must read&#8221; book in the defense community, <strong>Relentless Strike<\/strong> is also extremely controversial among its target audience because Naylor&#8217;s dissection of the rise of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.military.com\/special-operations\/jsoc-joint-special-operations.html\"><strong>JSOC<\/strong> <\/a>reveals operational details, TTP and names to a degree that many current and former &#8220;operators&#8221; view as too granular while others welcome the confirmation and credit\u00a0of <strong>JSOC<\/strong> triumphs that would normally be shrouded in secrecy. <strong>David Axe<\/strong> of <strong>War is Boring<\/strong>\u00a0opines that\u00a0Naylor, an award winning journalist and author,\u00a0&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/warisboring.com\/articles\/sean-naylor-wants-america-to-know-who-fights-its-wars\/?utm_source=dlvr.it&amp;utm_medium=facebook\"> &#8230;may know more about commandos than any other reporter on the plane<\/a>t&#8221; while <strong>Jack Murphy<\/strong> of <strong>SOFREP<\/strong> has a full interview of Sean Naylor<a href=\"http:\/\/sofrep.com\/42095\/relentless-strike-interview-sean-naylor\/\"><strong> here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Flipping open to a page at random, I find discussion of a special operator attacked in <strong>Lebanon<\/strong> while under unofficial cover\u00a0during circumstances that remain classified. Foiling an attempt to kidnap him, despite suffering a gunshot wound, the operator covered his tracks, eluded further detection and crossed several international borders before receiving medical care.
