{"id":47594,"date":"2015-11-09T05:03:20","date_gmt":"2015-11-09T05:03:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/zenpundit.com\/?p=47594"},"modified":"2015-11-09T05:03:20","modified_gmt":"2015-11-09T05:03:20","slug":"surprise-surprise-surprise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zenpundit.com\/?p=47594","title":{"rendered":"Surprise, surprise, surprise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[ by <strong>Charles Cameron<\/strong> &#8212; astronaut in a cathedral, nuclear reactor in Gabon ]<br \/>\n.<\/p>\n<p>I enjoy scoping and snoping out strange claims, and had to check out possible <strong>anachronicities <\/strong>not once but twice today &#8212; first, to verify the presence of an <strong>astronaut<\/strong> in Salamanca&#8217;s seventeenth-century (1513-1733 to be more precise) &#8220;New Cathedral&#8221;:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/zenpundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/SPEC-DQ-cathedral-astronaut-african-reactor.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/zenpundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/SPEC-DQ-cathedral-astronaut-african-reactor.png\" alt=\"SPEC DQ cathedral astronaut african reactor\" width=\"592\" height=\"625\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-47595\" srcset=\"https:\/\/zenpundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/SPEC-DQ-cathedral-astronaut-african-reactor.png 592w, https:\/\/zenpundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/SPEC-DQ-cathedral-astronaut-african-reactor-284x300.png 284w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 592px) 100vw, 592px\" \/><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>and then, of a <strong>nuclear reactor<\/strong> from two billion years ago in Gabon, West Africa.<\/p>\n<p>** <\/p>\n<p>Neither one turned out to be <strong>von D\u00e4niken<\/strong> fool&#8217;s gold, but both certainly glisten enough to be worth a mention.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.snopes.com\/photos\/architecture\/salamanca.asp\">Salamanca cathedral astronaut<\/a> is there, carved in stone, all right &#8212; but as part of a 1992 renovation. And what&#8217;s most interesting to me is that it&#8217;s entirely in conformity with tradition for an artist working today on such a restoration to &#8220;sign&#8221; his work with a contemporary flourish of this sort. It is thus faithful to what Benedict XVI would call the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stpeterslist.com\/11922\/hermeneutic-of-continuity-pope-benedict-xvis-10-step-guide-to-vatican-ii\/\">hermeneutic of continuity<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/the-physics-arxiv-blog\/in-the-1970s-scientists-discovered-a-2-billion-year-old-nuclear-reactor-in-west-africa-4472460b82c2\">2 billion year old nuclear reactor<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not as old as the sun, of course, by about 3.6 billion years, nor as close to us, nor as vast &#8212; but it&#8217;s there, it&#8217;s there.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hat tips:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<li>for the astronaut, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/search\/top\/?q=salamanca%20astronauta\">Jeff DeMarco<\/a><\/strong>\n<li>for the reactor, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/cheryl.rofer\/posts\/10208034915619807\">Cheryl Rofer<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[ by Charles Cameron &#8212; astronaut in a cathedral, nuclear reactor in Gabon ] .
