{"id":5181,"date":"2012-01-19T06:03:43","date_gmt":"2012-01-19T06:03:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/zenpundit.com\/?p=5181"},"modified":"2012-01-19T19:25:24","modified_gmt":"2012-01-19T19:25:24","slug":"there-will-be-blood-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zenpundit.com\/?p=5181","title":{"rendered":"There Will Be Blood&#8230;.."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i.walmartimages.com\/i\/p\/97\/81\/59\/42\/03\/9781594203183_500X500.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/All-Education-General-David-Petraeus\/dp\/1594203180\" target=\"_blank\">All In: The Education of General David Petraeus<\/a><\/strong> by <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.penguinspeakersbureau.com\/speakers\/page\/paula_broadwell\" target=\"_blank\">Paula Broadwell<\/a>, <\/strong>with <strong>Vernon Loeb<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The official biography of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cia.gov\/about-cia\/leadership\/david-h.-petraeus.html\" target=\"_blank\">CIA Director<\/a><\/strong> <strong>General David Petraeus,<\/strong> by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hks.harvard.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Harvard<\/strong> researcher<\/a> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.paulabroadwell.com\/#!authors\" target=\"_blank\">Paula Broadwell<\/a>,<\/strong> has long been anticipated in the .mil\/COIN\/NatSec\/Foreign Policy communities and blogosphere. \u00a0I can hear pencils scrawling furiously away in the margins even as I type this post. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Broadwell, \u00a0herself a reserve Army officer, <strong>West Pointer<\/strong>, Harvard grad, doctoral student at <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kcl.ac.uk\/sspp\/departments\/warstudies\/index.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">King&#8217;s College War Studies Department<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0, and by all accounts, an impressive up and coming individual, \u00a0had very extensive access to her subject &#8211; allegedly, far more than the official Army historian assigned to General Petraeus&#8217; last command. Given the subject is General Petraeus, the precarious state of American policy in Afghanistan and 2012 as a circus of political excess, <strong>All In<\/strong> will be one of the few &#8220;must read&#8221; books this year.<\/p>\n<p>And, I must commend <del>Miss<\/del> Mrs. Broadwell highly here, she will be donating 20 % of her net proceeds to help wounded veterans.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/a2.twimg.com\/profile_images\/1720682232\/Library_Twitter.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"214\" height=\"270\" \/><\/p>\n<p>That said, in terms of reaction to this book, there will be blood.<\/p>\n<p>Reviews of <strong>All In<\/strong>\u00a0will afford the opportunity to tear the scabs off of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lineofdeparture.com\/2011\/04\/25\/dazed-and-coinfused\/\" target=\"_blank\">well-worn COINdinista\/COINtra debate<\/a> and rub salt in the exposed wounds &#8211; I for one am especially looking forward to reading future back to back reviews by <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lineofdeparture.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Carl Prine<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/ricks.foreignpolicy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Thomas Ricks<\/a> <\/strong>and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnas.org\/blogs\/abumuqawama\" target=\"_blank\">Abu Muqawama<\/a><\/strong> vs. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gian_Gentile\" target=\"_blank\">Colonel Gian Gentile<\/a><\/strong>. In the mainstream press, the opportunity for newspaper columnists to get in gratuitous potshots against figures like <strong>Presidents Bush<\/strong> and <strong>Obama<\/strong>, <strong>Dick Cheney<\/strong>, <strong>Don Rumsfeld, Robert Gates, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Stan McChrystal<\/strong> and numerous others or grind partisan axes will be too tempting to resist, regardless of how relevant these remarks are to Broadwell&#8217;s biography of Petraeus. The looming specter of draconian cuts to defense budgets will also add to the rancor of the discussion of the book within the defense community.<\/p>\n<p>Somewhere in that debate will be the book Broadwell actually wrote and within the book, perhaps, we will come to see David Petraeus.
