Vogel (@kenvogel) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kenvogel\/status\/1015990863560953856?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 8, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Now from a purely amateur natural history perspective, in a match between a <strong>black swan and a red hen<\/strong>, muy money is on the swan every time, as I trust <strong>Nassim Nicholas Taleb<\/strong> would agree. And <strong>Nabokov <\/strong>too, for that matter.<\/p>\n<p>From a popular consumer interest perspective, if the match is <strong>bookstore vs restaurant<\/strong>, restaurant wins hands down &#8212; but I&#8217;d go with bookstore, especially if it&#8217;s a used bookstore.. <\/p>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p>As to <strong>civility vs freedom of expression<\/strong>, thank God I&#8217;m not a cop or a judge &#8212; I require both. And that&#8217;s certainly a paradox, and probably a <strong>koan <\/strong>our society will have to face one of these days.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Steve Bannon<\/strong> as a person I find intriguing to the point of sympathy, because he&#8217;s read many of the oddball authors I have, though my resulting observations come out of left field, and his out of right..<\/p>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p>But none of that is what ultimately draws me to this post, it&#8217;s the delicious double parallelism of <strong>red vs black<\/strong>, <strong>swan vs hen<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been wondering, putting together this post, whether the bookstore is named for <strong>NN Taleb&#8217;<\/strong>s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Black-Swan-Improbable-Robustness-Fragility\/dp\/081297381X\">celebrated book<\/a>, or for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxsearchlight.com\/blackswan\/\">wildly popular ballet film<\/a> of thet name:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/zenpundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/black-swan-ballet-book.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"521\" height=\"378\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-60053\" srcset=\"https:\/\/zenpundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/black-swan-ballet-book.png 521w, https:\/\/zenpundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/black-swan-ballet-book-300x218.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 521px) 100vw, 521px\" \/><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Btw, Vogelgesang is birdsong: <strong>hen cluck, swan song<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[ by Charles Cameron &#8212; a parallelism post, more than one about free speech and civility ] .
