Not actors.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, they&#8217;ve been viewed so many times, in so many variants, that there&#8217;s now a <strong>Progressive ad<\/strong> that pulls the obvious reversal:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vqobY3r203k\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Real actors. Not people.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p>Then there&#8217;s the <strong>existential question<\/strong>, referenced in <strong>The Atlantic<\/strong>&#8216;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/entertainment\/archive\/2016\/08\/real-people-not-actors-chevrolet-olympics-ad-interview\/495863\/\">The Reality of Those &#8216;Real People, Not Actors&#8217; Ads<\/a> piece:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>During commercial breaks at the Olympics viewing parties I\u2019ve been at in the past week, one company\u2019s ads have consistently sent the room into a round of existential questions. What is reality? Aren\u2019t we all actors? Just how excited can a normal person get about J.D. Power awards?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Existential<\/strong>? Holy Moly. But then, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/entry\/chevy-commercial-real-people_us_5924785ee4b094cdba58376a\">One Of The \u2018Real People\u2019 From That Chevy Commercial Speaks Out<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>As The News Wheel reported in 2015, some of the \u201creal people\u201d were actors by profession, a fact explained away by a GM representative who claimed this was just because they scouted for people in LA. Struggling actors who know that faking enthusiasm could yield a better paycheck could explain this. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Phew, that was a close one!<\/p>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p>And every actor surely knows <strong>Shakespeare<\/strong>, no? <strong>Jaques<\/strong>, in <strong>As You Like It<\/strong>?  All the world&#8217;s a stage? In the Globe Theatre, motto: <strong>All the world enacts a play<\/strong>?<\/p>\n<p>But forget Shakespeare and <strong>the more things in heaven and earth than are dremed of<\/strong> in his existential philosophy &#8212; I think I know what the Chevy ads boil down to:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Real ads.
