If the lyric doesn&#8217;t strike you as particularly suggestive, just listen to the way she sings it and you&#8217;ll see what we mean.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Now multiply by this, drawn from <strong>Janis<\/strong>&#8216; letters:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>She fell in love at a heartbeat; her sexual appetites are perhaps best described as ravenous (she had female as well as male lovers), her judgment frequently awry.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Sex, plenty of it &#8212; you&#8217;d think she&#8217;d move from <strong>jaggering<\/strong> via <strong>satisfaction<\/strong> to <strong>satiated<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p>And <strong>sex, the absence, the vacuum, the abyss<\/strong>, <\/p>\n<p>Second, her heart torn, shredded:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4wi45yqbqEs\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This line is all I need:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Well, the fevers of the night, they burn an unloved woman:<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>and this brilliant comment I overheard:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>she would make love to 25,000 on stage, then go home alone..<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p><strong>Janis is a Rajneeshi at heart<\/strong> and in behavior, <strong>an Incel in blues and loneliness<\/strong>..<\/p>\n<p>Given that, that strength, that compulsive pull, that <em>driven drive<\/em> &#8212;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Zero Sex, the absence, involuntary<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Incels<\/strong> &#8212; those who are involuntarily celibate &#8212; <strong>can&#8217;t get none<\/strong> &#8212; perceiving themselves shunned by those who attract them __<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/genius.com\/James-brown-its-a-mans-world-lyrics\">final lyrics, one version:<\/a>James Brown, It&#8217;s a Man&#8217;s World..<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Oh how, how man needs a woman<br \/>\n<em><strong>I sympathize with the man that don&#8217;t have a woman<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nHe&#8217;s lost in the wilderness<br \/>\nHe&#8217;s lost in bitterness<br \/>\nHe&#8217;s lost in loneliness<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>That last stanza, with that line in it, could be an incel anthem<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<li>I sympathize with the man that don&#8217;t have a woman..\n<li>Well, the fevers of the night, they burn an unloved woman..<\/li>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The raw reality of it: a child&#8217;s wail &#8212; see how much you can bear to see &#8212;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pnT0CMwBrWs\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That&#8217;s the <strong>involuntary celibate<\/strong>, Incel, pieced together out of Janis and James Brown, the extreme in inward-twisting, <strong>self-pitying<\/strong>, child&#8217;s wail version of the blues ..<\/p>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p>This boy, this young man, a day or so after making this video, went out and killed six people in Isla Vista, Calif., in an attempt as &#8220;the prefect gentleman&#8221; to get his revenge on the hottest blondes in UC Santa Barbara. And became, for some, a hero to be emulated.. A Term Used by the Toronto Van Attack Suspect, Explained<\/a\/>\n<li><strong>WaPo<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/the-intersect\/wp\/2018\/04\/25\/inside-the-online-world-of-incels-the-dark-corner-of-the-internet-linked-to-the-toronto-suspect\">Inside the online world of \u2018incels,\u2019<\/a>\n<li><strong>LRB<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lrb.co.uk\/v40\/n06\/amia-srinivasan\/does-anyone-have-the-right-to-sex\">Does anyone have the right to sex?<\/a><\/li>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It is this extreme I have greater difficuty understanding.<\/p>\n<p>This most recently, btw:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<li><strong>LATimes<\/strong>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/local\/lanow\/la-me-isle-vista-massacre-alt-right-20180206-story.html\">Killer who committed massacre in Isla Vista was part of alt-righ<\/a><\/li>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The SPLC report counts Rodger among <strong>13 alleged alt-right killers<\/strong> whose actions left 43 people dead and more than 60 injured since 2014.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Elliot Rodger, the 22-year-old who killed six students in the college town of Isla Vista in 2014, was the first &#8220;alt-right killer&#8221; to strike in recent years..<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sex raised hopefully to the power of the infinite:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And then I hear that howl against the backdrop of the recent documentary about the Rajneeshis, encouraged by their guru to explore their sexuality to the sacred, to satiation..:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hBLS_OM6Puk\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Wide-open their hope, shut-down their finale.<\/p>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p><strong>And finally, JM, Something Other and more personal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A martini to cleanse the palate.. <\/p>\n<p>Now I want to watch, intend to binge-watch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Brideshead-Revisited-Jeremy-Irons\/dp\/B00005JLG2\">Brideshead Revisited<\/a>, the <strong>Jeremy Irons<\/strong> version, for some very un-American, upper-class-snobbish, public-school-boy, Roman-Catholic-gay historical-throwback art-level Britishness:<\/p>\n<p>Dropping you in at an odd, a very strange, indeed extreme in a dozen ways from Sunday,  luncheon:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cQBUkhxKaVQ\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I who have been beaten &#8212; four, with a bamboo cane, at <strong>Wellington College<\/strong>, (a sort of military academy slash prep school) &#8212; for doing <strong>the Times crossword<\/strong> in place of my math moework.
