If I was setting that para to music, it would definitely be on a descending arpeggio..<\/p>\n<p>hit man .. sabotage<\/p>\n<p>History doesn&#8217;t rhyme, it DoubleQuotes?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.centerforsecuritypolicy.org\/2018\/09\/29\/shady-watergate-reporters-target-trump\/\">Shady Watergate Reporters Target Trump<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Imagine a replay of Watergate \u2013only worse. <\/p>\n<p>In both the original and the replay, the same Washington D.C. reporter, whose parents were Communist Party members connected to Soviet atomic spies and who were under FBI surveillance for decades, teamed up with the same second D.C. reporter, who was outed as an \u201cFBI asset,\u201d to take down a sitting Republican President of the United States.<\/p>\n<p>In both instances the \u201cunnamed source\u201d leaking information to these two reporters turned out to be the Deputy Director of the FBI.<\/p>\n<p>This is a remake.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the players have even reprised their old roles.<\/p>\n<p>[ .. ]<\/p>\n<p>This is stunning \u2013 decades apart in time two separate FBI Deputy Directors leaked information about the then-sitting President of the United States to a pair of reporters, one of whom hails from a family intertwined with the Soviet spy ring that handed America\u2019s nuclear secrets to Joseph Stalin and the other of whom was an \u201cFBI asset.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Both of these FBI Deputy Directors had to know with whom they were dealing.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p>A brace of interesting articles, both by John Seabrook:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<li><strong>New Yorker<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/magazine\/2009\/06\/22\/dont-shoot-2\">Don\u2019t Shoot: A radical approach to the problem of gang violence<\/a> [2009]\n<li><strong>New Yorker<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/culture\/culture-desk\/operation-ceasefire-and-the-unlikely-advent-of-precision-policing\">Operation Ceasefire and the Unlikely Advent of Precision Policing<\/a> [2018]<\/li>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Some high spots from the former:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Captain Daniel Gerard, who took over Vortex in the fall of 2007, didn\u2019t put much stock in their ideas. He wore a grizzled beard and had thick, unbound hair that cascaded halfway down his back. \u201cWhat\u2019s some guy who looks like Jesus got to tell us about crime in Cincinnati?\u201d was the line around police headquarters.<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy had been approached by Dr. Victor Garcia, the head of the trauma unit at Cincinnati Children\u2019s Hospital Medical Center, who was seeing almost daily the effects of the city\u2019s violent gangs: the stabbings, shootings, and beatings, and the injuries to innocent children caught in the crossfire. \u201cChildren with their eyes shot out, children paralyzed,\u201d Garcia told me. \u201cI started to wonder, instead of treating injuries, how can we prevent them from happening in the first place?\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Often, much of the violence is caused by gang dynamics: score settling, vendettas, and turf issues, all played out according to the law of the streets.<\/p>\n<p>Whalen explained to me the C.P.D.\u2019s distinction between social workers and cops: \u201cSocial people hug thugs. We kick their butts.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I particularly appreciate the echo of &#8220;\u201cAcademia and law enforcement are at opposite ends of the spectrum.
