Don’t you mess with my mother the moon!
\nPearl.
\nSuperb in the night sky.
\nWhich you treat as a junkyard.<\/p>\n

ii<\/strong><\/p>\n

I am serious. I was never
\nmore serious. This, which you thinking
\nlife to be composed of things consider
\nreal estate, rock,
\nsubtly balances that other, <\/p>\n

portending at the eye
\nthat same angle — and that other, too
\nyou would colonize,
\nstrip, slash, mine, burn,
\nrape had you the chance, were it not
\nso magisterial a furnace. <\/p>\n

Gold, which figures the sun
\nwith silver the moon,
\nyou have tapped for coinage,
\ndespoiling hills for greed,
\nvalleys for your convenience:
\nnor is your idiocy limited in reach
\nby anything but your idiocy. <\/p>\n

Sun and moon are married
\nin a wedding you cannot conceive,
\nto which you lack invitation
\nthough it was offered you.
\nThe simple light of the night sky
\nescapes you, neither glimpse
\nnor sonata troubles your soul with its ripples, <\/p>\n

for you lack, altogether,
\nreflection.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
