No one, neither gangster, tsotsi nor pickpocket would touch him. Their respect for him was such that they would have tried &#8211; and if they did it could have cost them their lives. His enormous courage gave him a quality that commanded the respect of the place<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>and:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>No white person has done more for South Africa than Trevor Huddleston.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He was a giant.<\/p>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p>All of which got me thinking about stained glass as an alternative destination to ashes..<\/p>\n<p><strong>Desmond Tutu<\/strong> was another whose life was decisively influenced by Fr Trevor &#8212; and he too can be found in stained glass:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/zenpundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Tutu-Dalai-Lama-Gandhi.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"523\" height=\"897\" \/><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>MaryAnn Randolph<\/strong> writes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This, in St. Mark&#8217;s, Minneapolis, is what is called the Peacemaker&#8217;s Window. In this magnificent stained glass you will find: Mother Theresa of Calcutta, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Archbishop Tutu, Mahatma Gandhi, the Dalai Lama and many others.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Giants, all &#8212; and inspirations, inviting us to join them!<\/p>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p>Ah, <strong>Gandhi-ji<\/strong> and the <strong>Dalai Lama<\/strong> &#8212; it delights me to see stained glass extending to peacemakers regardless of their religious affiliations!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll leave you with an image of <strong>Green Tara<\/strong>, female Buddha to whom the &#8220;Great Fifth&#8221; <strong>Dalai Lama<\/strong> &#8212; who unified Tibet, established Lhasa as its capital, and worked to bring together the various lineages of Tibetan Buddhism together with the earlier shamanic Bon tradition &#8212; was devoted:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/zenpundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Green-Tara.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"602\" height=\"338\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-64966\" srcset=\"https:\/\/zenpundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Green-Tara.png 602w, https:\/\/zenpundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Green-Tara-300x168.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 602px) 100vw, 602px\" \/><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Dalai Lama himself, in each of his incarnations, is considered an emanation of the Buddha of Compassion, <strong>Avalokiteshvara<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p>It was the Sixth, beloved successor of the Great Fifth, who was the rascal poet, writer of such gently erotic verses as:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This white bow in its cloth cover,<br \/>\nOn whom shall I bestow it?<br \/>\nI will place it gently inside<br \/>\nMy lover\u2019s tiger-skin quiver.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ah, but he&#8217;d be hard to capture in stained glass &#8212;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll leave you with him and his compassion, and with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atanet.org\/publications\/beacons_10_pages\/page_60.pdf\">Love Songs of the Sixth Dalai Lama<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Enjoy!
