As the Institute has emerged as a leader in complexity science, particularly in working toward a theory of conflict in human and animal societies, the Manhattan Project has become an important case study for understanding conflict. The project’s history also illustrates the occasional tension between pure theoretical research and applied science.

Photo: Harold Agnew holding the core of the Nagasaki bomb.

An excellent opportunity for students, grad students, historians and practitioners in various fields to participate here via twitter.

From blogfriend Cheryl Rofer as well as Molly Cernicek and Susan Voss at Nuclear Diner, – an event for those interested in nuclear weapons, science, Cold War diplomatic history, national security, strategic theory and American strategists: Nuclear Diner Teams With Santa Fe Institute To Bring You Legacies of the Manhattan Project Next weekend, May 12-13, […]

[232,360,216,46,662,129,321,146,234,327,9,362,147,87,653,178,425,165,294,51,78,336,39,367,270,376,14,372,90,684,377,187,472,108,91,263,32,131,558,85,293,481,127,530,605,13,681,335,427,393,355,18,153

post-8540","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-20th-century","category-21st-century","category-academia","category-analytic","category-blog-friends","category-blogging","category-blogosphere","category-cold-war","category-communism","category-complex-systems","category-complexity","category-deterrence","category-diplomatic-history","category-foreign-policy","category-game-theory","category-geopolitics","category-government","category-historians","category-historiography","category-history","category-ideas","category-intellectuals","category-military","category-military-history","category-national-security","category-network-theory","category-networks","category-non-state-actors","category-nuclear","category-nuclear-diner","category-physics","category-politics","category-public-diplomacy","category-rofer","category-russia","category-scenario","category-science","category-security","category-social-science","category-soviet-union","category-stalin","category-strategist","category-strategy","category-strategy-and-war","category-tactics","category-theory","category-think-tanks","category-totalitarianism","category-truman","category-twitter","category-uncertainty","category-war","category-wwii
["GET
