Presidential ouroboros!

[ by Charles Cameron — mission accomplished, I can retire now, no? ]

.

I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director! Witch Hunt

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 16, 2017

This simply has to be peak ouroboros!

  1. Charles Cameron:

Then there’s Katy Tur reporting today:
    .

    ,
    Lawyer hires lawyer.
    .
Then there’s U.S. News & World Report-15 hours ago today, with a piece titled Trump’s Self-Inflicted Wounds. One of MSNBC’s anchor-commentators used the same phrase today, while Chris Hayes spoke of a “snake biting its tail.”
    .
It was peak ouroboros all round.
    .

  2. Charles Cameron:

    Bureau of strange parallelisms:
    .
Putin offers asylum to Comey, ironist that he is, just as he did to Snowden. “What is the difference then between the FBI director and Mr. Snowden?” he asks, according to Reuters.

  3. Charles Cameron:

Meanwhile, having nthing to do with Trump, two days agos’s New Scientist had a feature article headed: Don’t feel sorry for apologising – it could be good for you

  4. Charles Cameron:

This is also the day Ted Nugent was reported to have renounced violent rhetoric in the wake of the shooting of GOP congressmen at baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia. He credits his wife for nudging him in this direction.
    .
That’s good news from my POV — but it amuses me that his new motto for the USA involves a paradox:

Here’s the battle cry for America — zero violence.

  5. Charles Cameron:

    O ouroboros!
    .

  6. Charles Cameron:

    Oh my!

    Trump’s tantrums speak volumes

After noting she frequently advises her readers “not to overreact, to maintain perspective”, Ruth Marcus today offers us a number of possible outcomes of “Trump’s tantrums” we may want to brace ourselves for:

I’m not sure for what, exactly. President Trump firing Rod J. Rosenstein or taking moves that would force the deputy attorney general, and perhaps others, to quit? Firing special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, whose probe has pushed Trump to this frenzied state? Using his pardon power in an effort to shut down the investigation, on the theory that Mueller would then have nothing left to probe?

And then the kicker, the ouroboros of pardon:

Pardoning himself, a move of contested legality that even Richard Nixon balked at?

I rest my case. Oh, but I’m sure there wilol be more..

  7. Charles Cameron:

    Enantiodromia, again:

The dissident vocabulary of anti-politics is currently in vogue, but often misconstrued. The anti-political critique of ideology moves comfortably across the political spectrum, and today’s anti-politician can become tomorrow’s ideologue.

Quoted in Holly Case, Now who’s living in truth?
