Consider the two images below, neither one perhaps what a camera might have seen if a photographer could time-travel back two thousand years, but each suited to the people for whom it was produced — in China, in Africa:

Very enjoyable post.
You’ve inspired me to re-watch Eisenstein’s Odessa Steps this morning. Jaw droppingly skillful evolution of the
Hegelian dialectic:
Truth consists, not of contradictions, but of moments which, if separated, would be contradictions, but which in their synthesis are reconciled and consistent
Now, if Coppola was really on the ball he would have used, for maximum contapuntal effect, something instead of the Doors. Perhaps the Beach Boys.
That tea pot is not innocent. It must have been intentional.
I wouldn’t necessarily call it an archetype.
More like a disturbing undercurrent.
