The Buddha‘s Diamond Sutra:

So I say to you –

This is how to contemplate our conditioned existence in this fleeting world:

Like a tiny drop of dew, or a bubble floating in a stream;

Like a flash of lightning in a summer cloud,

Or a flickering lamp, an illusion, a phantom, or a dream.

So is all conditioned existence to be seen.

  2. Charles Cameron:

From Wiki: Si vis pacem, para bellum:

    The parabellum
    .
The main clause of the adage has been used as a motto by German arms maker Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken (DWM), and is the source of the term Parabellum as applied to firearms and ammunition (especially the 9mm Parabellum cartridge).

    — and this next bit is where it gets hipbonish —

The term is an opposed parallel to the English use of “peacemaker” to mean the Colt Single Action Army handgun.

  3. Grurray:

Well, I’m a novice to this game, but would the next move be the MX ‘Peacemaker’?

  4. Grurray:

Interesting – Autocorrect turned ‘Peacekeeper’ into ‘Peacemaker’
There must be an Android bias towards making over maintaining.

In the book “Empire of the Summer Moon” the author gives some credit for the Colt’s creation to the Federal Government’s attempt at peacekeeping in the region controlled by bands of Native Americans, with the Comanches at the center of the bands.
The advantage the Comanches had was in their weaponry (rapid firing of multi-ammo weapons and from horseback), and the Colt was created to take away the Comanches advantage. Basically, the Federal Government took over where the locals failed.
So maybe Android is more local (less resources and more connections) than federal (more resources less connections) biased.
After all, it takes less resources to maintain peace locally, than it takes to keep the peace in a foreign country.
Maybe we could also say that the Colt made all politics local, as the “Peacekeeper” missiles, once fired, would have also accomplished.

Neat article from Nicole Spector today:

‘Yoga Joes,’ a peaceful spin on the classic toy, find fans among the military

    Sample:

“I connected with a great organization called Connected Warriors, and we were able to get Yoga Joes to Afghanistan,” Abramson said. “It was so cool, because this project was designed to convince more people to try yoga, and there it was: pictures of the Yoga Joes getting soldiers to sign up for yoga class at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan.”

If we’re really interested in having armed forces consisting of real warriors then all military personnel should be required to follow the paleo diet. Red meat and green vegetables.
No more refined flour or sugar or wheat. That’s the food of the vanquished and the main ingredients in the self-licking ice cream cone.
And people wonder why we can’t win wars anymore.
