MOUNTAIN OF SKULLS, OCEAN OF BLOOD: MAO’S CHINA AS THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF DEATH

RJ Rummel, the noted scholar of genocide and murder by government, has retabulated the totals for democide for The People’s Republic of China under ” The Geat Helmsman” Mao ZeDong:

77, 000,000 Dead

This total is twice as large as all combat deaths for the Russian and Mexican Revolutions,WWII, Korean and Vietnam wars combined. It may exceed all combat deaths in the 20th century and puts the maniacally genocidal exertions of Hitler ( 20,946,000) and Stalin (61,911,000) in the shade. (All figures here are Professor Rummel’s). Only Pol Pot, in the percentage of population category, approaches Mao in sheer savagery and bloodlust. As Professor Rummel commented:

“Now, my overall totals for world democide 1900-1999 must also be changed. I have estimated it to be 174,000,000 murdered, of which communist regimes murdered about 148,000,000. Also, compare this to combat dead. Communists overall have murdered four times those killed in combat, while globally the democide toll was over six times that number.

Let freedom ring. “

Somewhere, Mao’s academic and journalistic apologists in the West are enjoying a comfortable retirement.

IRAQ AS THE ARAB WORLD’S DUMPING GROUND FOR ITINERANT SALAFIS

The Jamestown Foundation has a data-rich report on the Salafist segment of the Iraqi insurgency, including the following points:

Iraqis make up only 8 % of Salafist insurgents who are overwhelmingly Saudis from the Nejd; specifically the Shammari, Otaibi, Shahri and Motairi tribes. Syrians are around 10 %, the next largest figure. Egyptians have vanished from the Salafist-Jihadi ranks since the semi-legalization of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.

Roughly 20 % of the Jihadis have a college degree. 50 % have less than a high school education.

45 % of the suicide bombers are Nejd Saudis.

Pressure by state security agencies in Arab countries are causing local Salafist extremists to migrate to Iraq. North Africans are a rising contingent.

Jihadis with prior experience in Afghanistan, Kashmir, Chechnya, Bosnia number less than 5 %

Moreover the focus of these foreign fighters is increasingly ideological ( anti-democracy) and takfiri – with Shiites and elected officials being their preferred targets. From CENTCOM:

” On 30 November, a 44:35 minute audio message purportedly orated by Abu Hamza al-Baghdad, the head of the Shari’a Committee of AQI was issued. The speech, titled: “The Election is the Way of the Criminals,” expounds upon the group’s belief that the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections and democracy, in general, seek to deify man and denounce Islamic Shari’a, as politicians become the “highest authority and there is no other authority above them.” Further, al-Baghdadi argues that elections serve the American’s purpose to extinguish the jihad spirit within the mujahideen – that it will resolve the differences between the coalition and Iraq administrations and the insurgents- and “make your dreams come true.” The speech elaborates upon a multi-point denouncement of democracy’s purpose vis-à-vis Islam and principles as set out in the Qur’an, and additionally, states that those who participate and elect the men to “partner with Allah” will be considered infidels, as “they are the ones who are providing the mandate to the representatives to make the laws.” Also, the speech cites historic examples of America’s alleged tampering in foreign elections for their own interests, such as Italy in 1947, where the United States sought the “success of the Christian Democrats over the Communist Party.” The audio concludes with a message addressing the mujahideen to remain steadfast in their jihad and to “draw your swords of dignity.”

The Jihadis are apparently avid online readers of Left-wing revisionist historians.

A superconducting, supercolliding set of posts on the steroid superhighway:

Pride of place today goes to Dan of tdaxp. First, his examination of Freakonomics drew the attention of authors Dr. Steven Leavitt and Stephen J. Dubner as well as military theorist John Robb. And then, as a topper, a post recapping the discussion Dan had with evolutionary psychologist Dr. Robert Kurzban .

THE PARTISANSHIP OF A GENTLER ERA PROVIDES A LESSON FOR TODAY

” A military leader is accustomed to giving orders and getting them carried out. He has no political, legislative or business experience. He’s an American hero elected in a democratic election and treading on new fields. He’ll need help. Remember that we are Americans first and Democrats second.

Remember, any jackass can kick over a barn, but it takes a carpenter to build one”

– Sam Rayburn ( D-Tx) 1953, speaking to House Democrats about the
newly inaugurated President, Dwight Eisenhower.

Can you imagine a party leader in Congress today saying such a thing about a president who was from the other political party ? I think Nancy Pelosi might prefer to see her tongue turn to sand.

Incidentally, the voters rewarded Rayburn’s constructive engagement strategy in 1956 by returning the Democratic Party to a majority in the House of Representatives and Rayburn to the Speakership, which ” Mr. Sam” held until his death in 1961.

Compare that to the electoral records of the House Republicans and Democrats when they employed ” scorched earth” political tactics against Clinton and Bush. You take care of your wingnut base by by throwing it red meat at the times when doing so causes the party no harm; you don’t let the base start dictating the feeding schedule.

The Republican base is standing on chairs and clanging tin cups on the table. The Democratic base has commandeered the kitchen and is now ransacking the refrigerator.
