Turkey and the unicorn

[ by Charles Cameron — i don’t do much in the way of cat pics, so here’s a timely geopolitical unicorn for you ]
.

What with the Whole Wired World looking a bit both “1984” and “Brave New” this week, and with Turkey clearly itching to up its rep as an authoritarian state, you might not think this would be the week a Turkish customs official would stamp a unicorn’s passport…

What can I tell you? Someone did. A Turkish customs official allowed this young British girl, Emily Harris, into Turkey by stamping her unicorn’s passport.

**

If I was Recep Tayyip Erdogan — and I’m not, and unlikely yo be any time soon — I might want to give that man a medal for providing the one news item this week favorable to the Turkish tourist trade — at a time when images of tear gassings in hotels and water cannonades in parks can hardly be helping the country’s image as an attractive place to visit.

Seriously — Public Diplomacy, one child’s passport at a time.

And while you’re at it, quit gassing hotels with children in them, will you? It’s barbaric.

In icy exchanges at a press conference, Putin said: “You will not deny that one does not really need to support the people who not only kill their enemies, but open up their bodies, eat their intestines in front of the public and cameras. Are these the people you want to support? Is it them who you want to supply with weapons? Then this probably has little relation to humanitarian values that have been preached in Europe for hundreds of years.”

This coming from the Guardian, remember, that employs Luke ‘FSB were constantly harassing me while my wife worked for state-funded RIAN’ Harding and pushed the Pussy Riot story hard (forgive any puns they were not intended). But that doesn’t matter. Goldstein has still defected from Oceania to Eastasia…or is it Eurasia? I’m starting to have doubts about Snowden’s authenticity. Perhaps the Chinese haven’t snatched him up for a reason, maybe they suspect he’s a CIA double. But anyway, let’s make it all about Snowden and pretend William Binney doesn’t exist. It works for Little Green Footballs.

Again, you heard it here first: if there’s a leak about Benghazi-related MANPAD and gunrunning to Syria via Turkey, expect it to come out of the Turkish opposition press. No better way for SVR to launder it while sending Obama a message not to get too froggy about intervening in Syria. In fact I’m wondering if Obama is even close to still being in control. You have honorary Al-Heart and Lung Eaters Brigades member John McCain and Bill ‘I got a BJ while bombing Serbia’ Clinton publically egging Obama on into the maelstrom. Did they all get their Illuminati marching orders at Bildeberg? I mean seriously, do they think Syria is going to be an easy nut to crack or another Libya? Do they have any idea how heavily armed Assad’s people are and how determined they will be to resist — including perhaps with Russian Iskander or other surface to surface missiles that can reach deep into Jordan? It’s almost as if our elites have a h— on to get on with WWIII or at least one hell of a proxy war with Russia.
