IT TAKES A VILLAGE IDIOT

Like Rick Santorum who exists apparently to provide evidence for Leftists everywhere that membership in the Republican Party is not incompatible with complete intellectual incoherence and a fascistic mindset. You sir, represent a weird, right-wing bizarro world version of everything I categorically reject in Left-wing authoritarianism.

In the next election cycle I will do something I have never done before which is cross party lines and donate to Santorum’s opponent ( naturally, I’m sure the Democrats will take the opportunity to nominate a true extremist kook of their own to make this decision as unpalatable as is humanly possible).

Hat tip to John Robb.

    Mark,

I was going to write a post very similar to yours, unfavorably comparing Senator Santorum to Senator Clinton.

Then I listend to the radio excerpt.

It’s unclear what he is talking about in his criticisms of a “libertarianish Right.” I could not determine whether he was decrying a “libertarian Right”‘s opposition to governmental “vertical” controls, or a “libertine Right”‘s opposition to social “horizontal” controls.

Maybe one or the other, maybe both, maybe something else. The excerpt makes it appear he favors stricter vertical rulesets, the full audio (particular his return again and again to “families”) sounds like he favors stricter horizontal rulesets.

Maybe Robb or BuzzMachine has read or heard Santorum say things I have not, but the radio address is hardly authoritarian. Indeed, strong horiziontal rulesets typically preempt the need or demand for strong vertical ones.

PS: What’s the difference between rulesets and controls anyway? đŸ˜‰

    hi Dan.

I’m very bothered by that excerpt. It’s possible Santorum simply doesn’t know his head from his ass – I don’t follow him closely, living in Illinois, I have enough to do watching that fool Durbin – and he was just rambling but the excerpt was a very scary 2005 version of a Berzelius Windrip collectivistic rant.

I would say that ” controls” could differ by being the methodology of enforcement rather than the parameters of the Rule-set. How Santorum meant it though, well, your guess is as good as mine.
