What this country needs is a culture of limited government and individual liberty that informs all parties out of which our policies are derived. What we have is a conflict between socialism and limited gov’t/individual liberty. At this point we are at a disadvantage: neither party is the proponent of limited gov’t/individual liberty, much to my disappointment. This disappointment will be expressed at the next election.

That would help. There is a deep thread of those individualist values in the culture but socialism ( or statism) has been embedded as a cultural competitor since the day of the Progressives.
Most Americans have a somewhat irrational amalgam of both value-sets by now so we like large tax-cuts AND enormous expansions of welfare state programs ( e.g. Medicare prescription drugs) even though the two are not really compatible.
