A GREAT movie. I’ve seen it twice, the last time about a month ago. Since I do not know the factual details of those last days, I can’t critique its accuracy. Some things had to be “imagined,” I’m sure; plus, the secretary’s story heavily inspired the script, and I’m not sure we should trust the one source. But still — a GREAT movie. The guy should have won an Oscar, or at least the movie should have won for best foreign film (I say these things without knowing what actually won…)
BTW, some of the interviews are pretty interesting, too.

Hi YH, Hi Curtis,
I concur, it was excellent. One of the better films I’ve seen in some time. And for the historical genre, it was top notch. Quite a bit of Hitler’s dialogue were verbatim quotes – i haven’t checked but i’m pretty sure they buttressed Junge’s account both with other firsthand sources ( notably Speer) as well as relatively recent scholarship.
Interestingly, while I recognized many of the scenes and lines, some of them sounded ” off” in minor ways vis-avis he subtitles. then I realized that was because I was familiar with *English* translation and a German might choose slightly different words in German to give a more accurate (hopefully) version of what the figures had meant.
Great film!

A very good movie.
I had this post about it, which may be of interest.

A fabulous movie. Was a bit controversial here in Germany because some claimed it “humanized” Hitler too much. Of course, as we all know, he wasn’t human but a space alien.
Btw, I sure hope you watched it in German with English subtitles!

Lex,
Good review – I’ll do a follow-up post with a link.
Chirol,
Absolutely. And the movie is so good you forget that you are reading subtitles – plus from reading the history of the period I understood a sprinkling of German words or jargon here and there.
