ON MY READING TABLE

Winning The War: Advanced Weapons, Strategies And Concepts For The Post-9/11 World
Colonel John B. Alexander

Global Brain
Howard Bloom

Still reading:

The Third Reich in Power
Richard J. Evans

Just ordered tonight:

Networks, Terrorism and Global Insurgency
Robert J. Bunker

I suppose it is too ambitious to promise to review all of these books, but I will commit to Global Brain ( which Dan of tdaxp has reviewed) and the Bunker book ( hat tip to John Robb). If I can muster the energy for the other two as well, fine.

I read the Alexander book and did not learn much from it. I am interested to hear if you think otherwise.

I would like to read the Evans book, but I am a little bit Nazied out right now.

Alexander’s book would have made a great 20-24 page special report in a magazine or journal. Lots of excellent ideas and honest critiques of non-violent weapons and tactics, but entirely too much overlapping and jaunts into partisan territory that were mindless.

“Global Brain” rocks but will require at least a 2nd read from me to even intelligently comment on it, aside from the belief that analysis of mass mind and group behavior is an area intelligence, military and diplomatic types would do well to wade into. I look forward to your review.

    Hi Lex

    Working on Nixon… :o)

Just in a chapter w/ Alexander. He should blog ( perhaps he does, have not checked).

I know the feeling. I was once a finalist or honorable mention -some category that indicated I was noteworthy but didn’t quite make the cut – for a fellowship at the U.S. Holocaust Museum. I needed a break from those topics and thus veered off for a while into American economic and social history for about a year.

Gracias eddie – that’s theoretically consistent with emergence but I’ll have to see for myself. You should review it as well ;o)

Ooops. I meant the new Bunker book (coming out next year) on criminal networks and terrorism.

Sorry. Regardless, the book you ordered is a good read.

    John
