Iowa

I’ll preface my comments by saying that no candidate on the GOP side has stirred my interest and, by philosophy, no candidate on the Democratic side could possibly reflect my worldview.

Nevertheless, I can honestly say that I’m very glad that Hillary Clinton went down in flames. She doesn’t have the temperment to be president of a large organization, much less of the United States, and neither her political experience nor intelligence can make up for an isolated and autocratic character that I see as deeply marked by frustration, rigidity and Boomer self-righteousness. Imagine a liberal Richard Nixon in drag, but without the foreign policy vision, and you have a good picture of what a Hillary Clinton administration would be like.

Iowa isn’t the last nail in the coffin of her campaign but I’ll be pleased if it’s the first.

    Best one-line summary yet.

But it is a little unfair to Nixon.

What, was there an election in Iowa yesterday? Amazing the significance attached to something that everyone considers, logically, a non-event.  Unrepresentative of even Iowa due to the weird mechanics, and Iowa is not representative of the United States.  Another example of the insanity of our media, and how their need for content outweights any sense.

    Hi Lex,

Much thanks. And you’re right, Nixon was more gracious.

    Hi FM,

All true but the frontloaded and costly nature of our irrational primary system carries weight nonetheless. Candidates are already dropping out.

    nobody?…c’mon what about FRED?!

  6. zen Says:

    Much thanks Hg99!

Fred has faded for me due to lack of effort on his part. He doesn’t want the job.

    He doesn’t want the job.

The media attention before he declared himself a candidate led him to believe the nomination would be handed to him on a silver platter.  He didn’t think he’d have to work for it.

Interestingly enough, I think something of the same happened with Obama.  The difference:  he knew he’d have to work for it.

    Hi Curtis,

That may be the case. There’s something to be said for laziness as a virtue in presidents as it lowers the probability of their causing the republic some real damage. Fewer unintended consequences flowing from fewer intended ones -LOL!
