Returning from NSS, Brief Note
En route from Carlisle, where I met a host of smart, imaginative and highly capable men and women from our armed forces, State Department, Intelligence community and other agencies, dedicated to protecting our national interests. It was a great week of strategy, national security and the occasional adult beverage.

Welcome back, Zen! I too am eager to read you once again — and twice, and more…

Thanks guys!
.
As most students were colonels ( a few LTC, foreign generals and USG civ) or navy captains. I heard more of the "operator" and "war planner"perspective than I have digested in several years of reading. They are also, as a group, genuinely worried the US public neither understands the difficulties under which they do their jobs when deployed nor the family sacrifices repeated deployments ( five, six, eight) have entailed. While public support for them is greater than they realize, they are right that the comprehension level out there is extremely dim.

Yeah, welcome back.
.
I hope you are able to share some of what you learned with us, if that is at all possible

Did you by chance meet beer writer Charlie Papazian (@CharliePapazian)? He was there as well. Apparently there was a U.S. Army War College Commemorative Beer: The Strategic Thinkers Brew http://bit.ly/mLF7CX
