Sunday surprise

Scarier than any horror movie, more piercing than any fire and brimstone sermon, real life:
This tree was hit by lightning in Baldwyn, MS. It burned the inside. From @jkroxie pic.twitter.com/OKXNMZrmVi

It is highly unusual for an open portal to be captured on film, but meteorologist James Spann caught this beauty as it was closing behind an unfortunate colleague.

Here’s a timely quote from HM Naqvi, History, Art and Akbar Naqvi:
It’s pretty amazing to me: I saw both the tweeted image of the tree with inner fire and this quote from John Berger in an HM Naqvi article on the same day, probably within about 20 minutes of one another, but because I was focused on the question of whether the Naqvi piece was close enough to my interests for me to save it, I missed the “perceived meaning of fire” linkage between quote and image, although the interest of the image is precisely the way it gives us a glimpse of the earlier way of viewing fire in the naturalistic context of contemporary photorealism.
.
It took me maybe another eight hours to realize what a perfect DoubleQuote I’d missed..
