ST.PATRICK’S DAY IN CHICAGO

I’ve been feeling the need for a blogging break, but as Zenpundit is doing so well lately, I’ve been trying to err in favor of keeping the posts relatively fresh for the readers who like coming here frequently. In an effort to address the other side of the coin, I met some friends and co-workers yesterday in the Wrigleyville area on a pub crawl.
The weather was nice, if a little cold and the crowds were well-behaved and friendly until the early evening, which is when I headed home. Lunch was a tasty Italian beef sandwich with hot peppers at D’Augustino’s, on Addison, which hit the spot. I skipped the pizza everyone else was eating as I thought I was getting more than enough calories as it was in liquid form. ;o)
A mellow battery-recharger on a day where everyone is a little bit Irish.
More posts to come later today…..

Excellent. A curious question; what kind of good spirits were you enjoying on St. Patrick’s Day…?
Its been so long since I’ve had a brew I’m tempted to fall down the solo drunk path today….

Hi eddie,
I skipped the green beer in favor of a couple of Boddington’s and (of course) Guinness. Mostly however, I favored nursing a jack and diet coke.
Solo drinking out of boredom is a baaaaaad path to take – beyond an occasional cocktail with a good book. Or a cold beer by the pool.

Ah, jack and diet cokes. I miss those. What are Boddingtons like?
The 8 bars in the city here are (2) white supremacist (3) sports bars with obscene prices and depressing Washington State fans (1) gay bar (nice people but there’s a 10 dollar cover charge), (1) burned down “Irish” pub and (1) the bar on base which is always empty once the NFL season is over.
I guess I’ll just get some wine across the way and just keep reading “Moorish Spain”.
I was terribly spoiled by the excellent train system in Japan which made drinking a literal open-ended adventure.
