You’r just playing the wrong games.
Incidentally, that entire video–not just the exact part I skipped to–might interest you, give your interest in how people manage to tell stories effectively in the digital realm. I have been absolutely fascinated by it and have watched five or six live responses/player walk-throughs. Half of them–cynical millennial gamers to a man (and one woman)–end up crying! And it is a 2-D platformer game with no vocals. I’m frankly quite amazed that they have created ten minutes with so much emotional resonance for so many people. Still have not figured it out.

I played Castle Wolfenstein in the 80s on an IBM PS/2 with MS-DOS. I remember keys and guns and closets but not a lot of color at all.
